FRIENDISh videos

IN PREPARATION FOR THE RELEASE OF FRIENDISH, I GATHERED SOME OF MY OWN FRIENDS TO TALK ABOUT DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF FRIENDSHIP. I HOPE YOU FIND THESE CONVERSATIONS AS HELPFUL, CLARIFYING, AND CHALLENGING AS I DID.

WEEK 1 - WITH Jimmy Needham AND TRIP LEE

In this first video, Kelly talks with her husband, Jimmy Needham, and their friend, Trip Lee. They discuss how to build meaningful friendships with people who are very different than you. While Jimmy and Trip have a lot in common (both have spent over a decade on the road as touring artists), they share how their differences have been a strength in their friendship and how you can learn to see your differences with others in a new light.

Week 2 - with Jessica Wiseman

Kelly talks with her friend Jessica, who is a licensed professional counselor and is on staff in their church’s care ministry. They discuss a unique form of friendship many of us are hungry for: mentorship. So how do we disciple others in the context of friendship? Are there unique dangers to be avoided in these mentoring relationships? Unique joys? Hear these questions and more answered in this week’s video.

WEEK 3 - WITH LINDSAY SCHOTT

Kelly chats with one of her oldest friends, Lindsay, about how technology has changed the way we do friendship. When Lindsay and Kelly first became friends, there were no smart phones, no social media, no face time. They discuss the way technology has changed their friendship, the challenges and blessing of technology, and how we can fight for health in our friendships amidst it all.

WEEK 4 - with Isaac Toldson, Ryan Kearns, & Andrew Guillory

Did you know that Kelly interviewed dozens of men for her book? She knew that guys face just as many challenges to friendship as women do and wanted to be sensitive to the unique struggles they face. In this video Kelly interviews a panel of men in different seasons of life to hear about these challenges and how they are fighting for meaningful friendships in their lives.

Week 5 - with Betsy Gomez

In this week’s video, Kelly chats with her friend, Betsy Gomez. Betsy and her family moved to the Untied States from the Dominican Republic a few years ago and she shares her story of building friendships in an entirely different culture than her own. You’ll hear them discuss the challenges and joys of intercultural friendship and how God surprised Betsy with an unexpected friendship right after they moved to America.

week 6 - with Tiffany and I’ya Toldson

This week’s video is a special one as Kelly interviews a mom and her teenage daughter. Tiffany has 7 daughters (yes, you read that right!) and she shares some tips on becoming a safe place for your kids to talk about their friendships. And I’ya, her 16 year old daughter, tells us about the importance of finding good friends and how her relationship with her mom has helped. Whether you are a teenager or a parents of a teenager, you’ll find this conversation helpful!

WEEK 7 - WITH THE NEEDHAMS & THE BAREFIELDS

We know friendship is important in seasons of singleness, but is it any less important once you’re married? In this week’s video, Kelly’s back with her husband, Jimmy Needham, and another married couple, Trip Lee and his wife Jessica, to discuss the answer. They will talk about the role friends should and shouldn’t play when you’re married, how to encourage your spouse to form good friendships and more. This video’s a fun one!

week 8 - with Stephanie Daniell and Elizabeth Jemaneh

Singleness can be a particularly challenging season of life, but it can also be one of the sweetest. This week, Kelly chats with two of her single friends who have been faithfully building good friendships over the years. They talk about the challenge of watching their friends get married and have children and how to weather those changes well. You’ll also hear them discuss the benefits that singleness has afforded them in their friendships. Whether you’re single or married, it’s definitely a video you don’t want to miss.

week 9 - with Jessica Barefield

Do you need a best friend to be ok? What if you don’t have a group to belong to? What if you don’t know who “your squad” is? This week, Kelly discusses these questions and more with her good friend Jessica. They also talk about the challenge of moving and all the insecurities that surface when you have to be the new person. We’ve all been there! We know you’ll be encouraged and challenged by this helpful and encouraging conversation!

WEEK 10 - WITH BETHANY BARNARD

Friendship is a uniquely challenging relationship because it often endure more changes than our familial relationships. So what do we do when a friend moves? When they start dating someone? When they have another kid? Or when they change jobs? What happens when it’s our life that is changing? Every major life change we go through affects our friendships. This week, Kelly chats with her good friend Bethany Barnard about dealing with change in our friendships. They share examples of what that’s looked like in their own friendship and share some wisdom that has helped them through it.
